Training on holiday ? Here are my thoughts.
In my last 3 or so years of personal training clients often ask me how they can keep up their fitness routine whilst away. In short my answer is usually “don’t bother.” Now if you find that training whilst you are on a break is something you desperately want to do, then by all means go for it. However I have always believed that taking some time away from the things you do in your everyday life is beneficial when going away.
I’m a personal trainer and someone who likes to take their training pretty seriously. Being on holiday this last week I haven’t trained, I’ve drank spanish beer and aperol spritz on most days, and I’ve enjoyed local cuisine. Have I put on weight? Probably yes, but are you really doing your holiday right if you haven’t? Now if you want to train please do, but in my own case having a week off training isn’t really going to have any impact on my life, and to be honest it’s quite nice to have a week off lifting weights and stomping around the common.
In my own personal opinion use your holidays to :
Spend time with friends and loved ones.
Explore new areas
Enjoy local cuisine
Take a break from the stressors you may experience when you are at home.
I want to say that these are my own opinions and if you feel training is something you really want to do, or if it helps you relieve stress, then go for it! If this is you I’m more than happy to provide workouts for clients to do whilst they are away. But the main point I will say is you are not going to undo all the hard work you have done in one week. A holiday may be the exact thing you need, and then you can get back to smashing your fitness goals when you get back!
